I am posting today, as it is late, and the travellers have already headed to bed.
Day 4 is in the books, and what a day it was. We started off with an early wake up call, had breakfast, and were on the road to Vimy at 7:30 am. After some obstacles, and some off-roading, we made it to the parking lot, then we got to hurry up and wait for the shuttle buses.
When we finally made it to ‘the Ridge’, we were treated to a fly-over by 5 replica World War I planes, and the ceremony began. When PM Trudeau was introduced, a large contingent of females got quite excited. We were also fortunate enough to see Sophie Trudeau, and the Royals; Charles, William and Harry.
We consider ourselves to be very fortunate to have been at the ceremony. It was a beautiful day, the monument was amazing, as always, and the travellers were fantastic. They certainly made us proud of them.
We decided to leave a little early to miss the traffic, however, the French security had different ideas. Picture this; 30,000 Canadians trying to leave the venue through 5 small gates. It became extremely crowded, and tight. Once again, the students did us proud, and after about 2 hours of trying to squeeze onto the shuttle buses, we finally got out and made our way back to the hotel.
We had a late dinner of turkey with gravy, salad, and french fries. I was clear to us that the kids were tired, as many were asking to go to bed as soon as they could.
In the end, it was a good day, and we will all have lots of memories from Vimy 100.
